What The Hell?

Anyone know anything about this movie?

(other than it's Japanese and looks like the love child of Terry Gilliam and apocolypic anime)

The official website can be found at http://casshern.com/; unfortunately, it seems to be entirely in Japanese, one of the many languages I lack fluency in.

I think you've pegged it. From this site...

Made for 5 billion yen, "Casshern" tries to address the idealistic question proposed in Shakespear's "Hamlet" (Why do people fight with each other?) It is also a continuation of the Japanese animation, "Shinzou Ningen Casshern" which was broadcasted back in 1973. A riot occurs within the robots that were made to clean up environmental pollution. As a result, a professor of robotic engineering revised his "son" Casshern to calm the riot.

One of the other plot summeries makes it sound a little like the plot of the video game Oni.

All I know is Casshern is directed by the husband of my favorite J-Pop Star, Utada Hikaru. His videos for her are insanely gorgeous and so are the clips of Casshern that I've seen, and I'm dying to watch it.

here's some info on the original
