Since randy and resourceful New Yorkers have figured out how to use everything from Friendster to personal blogs (yes, I know people who’ve used their blogs to hook up and no, I’m not telling you whom) Dodgeball to Craigslist to (not to mention Fleet Week, blizzards, Dean rallies and blackouts) to hook up, here’s a social software question to ponder: since there’s so much HOTTTNESS (see picture) on display over at Flickr, hasn’t anyone figured out how to make it work as a “social network” (nudge nudge wink wink) yet?

If you think about it, all the elements are there: digital cameras; young, attractive, envelope-pushing New Yorkers; a thriving virtual community; and, of course, the thing that pulls it all together: people taking naked pictures of themselves. It’s a logical fit, don’t you think?

So why hasn’t it taken off yet? Or has it already? Is there a top sekret cabal of mobloggers hooking up through a underground network of camphones and websites?

Inquiring minds…

(and no, this isn’t an attempt to shamlessly pull traffic by posting pictures of hot naked young asian women. really. no matter how much google-juice those words will get me.)

By all means, keep posting pictures of hot naked young asian women to you site. But, please God, don't post naked pictures of yourself here!

Hey, it seems that you are surprised/amused that people use Friendster for dating.
Friendster was built for that precise purpose-but in disguise, because of the social stigma attached to Match, etc.
Here's an extract of an interview of the founder, Jon Abrams:
“With JDate, a guy is almost bound to be 20 pounds heavier or 20 years older than he is in his photo,” says Abrams. “We’re trying to make the process more accountable. People will put a more accurate picture of themselves on Friendster because you know your friends will see it.”

And I hope that pic was a freak uncontrollable upload:-)Seriously.

"google-juice"??!!! Paul, you've been online waaaaaay too long.

About the pic: Actually, Lia asked me to put it up.

About Friendster: Yeah, I know that it was a thinly-disguised dating service; what surprised me was the number of people who would just send random friendster messages to people with cute pictures, saying, in effect, "u r hottt! let's get our freak on babee".

About Google-Juice: Baby, I've on-line so long I think in network topologies.

Ah, what the intrepid 1L will do to avoid studying for exams.
