4,297 words as of right now. That means that I'm already 8.6% done!

On the other hand, that also means that I'm 91.4% not done, so maybe I shouldn't start celebrating quite so early.

Given that I have several social engagements tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if I am able to get my 2000 words in. Well, there's only one way to find out...

awesome paul! i'm resorting to how all great novelists write -- hammer at 2 am. way to go on getting the words down!

That's funny.

There's also the time-tested 'get blasted and then hit the keyboard with both hands' school of great writing... ;-)

oops... that's precisely what i meant. get hammered then write. drink several large beers or your alcoholic beverage of choice, write in a fugue state. i'm at 5693 as of now but still have beer left... :)

but, friends don't let friends blog drunk, right?

how does this apply to novels?

I would argue that novel-writing in inherently different than blogging; novels are supposed to be made up while blogs aren't (unless you're Tony Pierce).

Anyway, there is a long tradition of writing under the influence stretching back to Coleridge (in xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree and all that) and probably before.

I mean, look at Hunter S. Thompson, for gosh's sake....

Hunter Thompson, yummmm.... Don't forget Hemingway and I forget, did Poe drink absinthe? I could go for some absinthe just about now...

I'm sure that Poe drank just about anything that gave off fumes. ;-)

Also, define "made up".
