Man of leisure

|

As today was given over to indolent pursuits, many of which involved napping, tomorrow will be a day of culture, built around the Rembrandt show at the Met and the Robert Capa show at ICP.

Plans had been made to investigate the Edward Burtynsky gallery show but tragically, the gallery is closed on Sundays.

There's Always Something New

So, late Saturday night (OK, so it might have been early Sunday morning), I get on an unusually crowded 1 train…. and it turns out that the reason the train is so crowded is there’s a full-fledged mariachi band on the train, complete with stand-up bass player.

That’s a new one.

I know we had a really mild winter overall, and I know that March is known for unpredictable weather, but this is just absurd:

And in case you’re wondering, that’s Fahrenheit, not Celsius (for our European reader, that’s -10.5 C).

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight

My friend Patrick’s band Ganymede is playing a show tonight at a bar near Times Sq. called The Mean Fiddler.

Check it out.

Another Mystery Solved!

No wonder there was no line at the Taco Bell today at lunch.

It’s funny—Taco Bell has managed to make a successful restaurant business by actually only making three or four different ingredients and then repackaging and recombining them in endless combinations and form factors. This explains why everything they make pretty much tastes the same, no matter what you order.

Of course, when one of those three or four things gets contaminated, then you have a problem.

FWIW, the incubation period for e. coli is apparently 3-to-9 days. I’ll keep you posted.

In the passageway above the 1/2/3 tracks at Times Square, a mime flirts with the passing crowds; in a curious sartorial inversion, a black bustier is worn over a white blouse. From the platforms below, the sounds of a two percussionists duet filter up; one, on a drum set, pounds out thunderous, frenetic hip-hop rhythms while his compatriot hammers out “Hava Negila” on steel drums.
