Linus and Lucy

Sometimes it seems that Wynton Marsalis has single-handedly been keeping the flame of ‘traditional’ jazz alive. Here’s a track taken from an album that was inspired by Vince Guaraldi’s music for the Peanuts television specials: Little Birdie.m4a (link expired)

Have you heard George Winston’s take on Peanuts? Definitely different than Marsalis’

Wynton believes jazz should be a museum piece. He’s an amazing musician, but his narrow defintion of jazz and his attitude sucks.

Oso, I’ve heard the Winston take, but I can’t say that I was inspired to buy the CD. ;-)

And yes, Wynton is a bit conservative when it comes to jazz. I wonder when John Zorn will make his Jazz at Lincoln Center debut.
