Yeah, I know I missed a day. Some brief notes:
- First off, I’m very pleased to announce that reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated.
- Second, when Sweden and Denmark play each other, for whom do the Norwegians root for?
- And third, if you asked me for a Gmail account and you never got your invite, check your spam folder or email me.
They root for the fans that have more beer.
Well, Norwegians have traditionally cheered for Denmark, because…I’m not 100% certain, but I think it has to with fact that Norway was under Swedish rule last (100 years ago). However, in the last 5-6 years Danish media has thrashed Norwegian soccer style and also been quite rude in their public descriptions of Norwegians. This accumulated into huge media frenzy last summer when Norway and Denmark were playing each other trying to qualify for Euro2004. It got pretty ugly actually and as a reaction to the entire name-calling hoopla, Norwegian media started a “Cheer for Sweden” campaign…
