Burger Flippers of the World, Unite! You Have Nothing to Lose But Your Flippers!

| | Comments (6)

In response to the news that the President's Council of Economic Advisers is considering classifying fast-food jobs as "manufacturing jobs", Rep. Charles Dingell writes:

I am sure the 163,000 factory workers who have lost their jobs in Michigan will find it heartening to know that a world of opportunity awaits them in high growth manufacturing careers like spatula operator, napkin restocking, and lunch tray removal. ... Will special sauce now be counted as a durable good?

Aaah! My eyes, they burn! For God’s sake, man, it’s “lose”!

Why, yes, that is indeed a pet peeve. How could you tell?

Ouch. I’m glad he shows so much respect to people working in fast food.

I mean, I get his point, and they don’t strike me as manufacturing jobs either… but when exactly did working in a factory become such a glamorous occupation that he should be mocking people who work in fast food? Looking at his biography he doesn’t seem to have ever had a manual labor job, himself. Hmm.

There ain’t a lot of fast-food jobs that pay $20-$30 an hour with good benefits and a full pension.

Yeah, but that’s because unions are psychotic, not because the work’s fabulous. :)

It just seemed like a really dismissive attitude to take, but I guess the unions have a lot more influence over him and what he says than the burger-flippers.

this makes me proud to be a michigander. this makes me wish i still paid taxes there.
