As promised, here are today’s five world blog day nominees:
- Sleepless in Sudan: The anonymous blog of a western aid worker in Darfur, Sudan. Whether she’s writing about the perils of getting one’s hair cut in Darfur, Humanitarian Air Services running out of gas, or the lighter side of highway robbery, it’s always a well-written, intelligent, and self-aware read.
- Kennysia.com: Kenny Sia is a young Malaysian Chinese who’s become something of a blog celebrity in Malaysia and Singapore. This is partly due to an infamous post where he parodied a number of A-List southeast-Asian bloggers; it’s also due to his irrepressible good humor and charm.
- Lenin’s Tomb is written by a young man from Northern Ireland who’s currently studying in London. His posts come from a rather left-of-center perspective, but that’s not entirely surprising when you realize that he’s a self-admitted socialist. As a lefty American, I can see where he’s coming from, even if I don’t agree with him most of the time.
- Mahmood’s Den is the blog of a Bahraini professional who takes particular delight in skewering members of the Bahraini Parliament. He also writes about daily life in Bahrain, like the time he got to ride a Segway.
- Kenya Democracy Project features very, very, very long posts that mix text and images in a single narrative stream that could perhaps be best described as “digital collage”. Author Onyango Oloo focuses mostly on Kenya and East Africa, though his posts tend to range somewhat far afield as he tries to make his points…
